Alex Moore shot a 2-under 69 to lead six Hanford golfers in the top nine as the Falcons won the Mid-Valley League district tournament Monday at Yakima Elks Country Club.

Hanford shot 294 to top West Valley at 306 by 12 strokes as Moore, Josh Harvey, Alex Cantu and Jacob Hendrickson finished their rounds with a birdie on the 18th hole.

"That was the best score by a high school team there in 30 years," said Chuck Wagner, who has coached the Hanford boys since 1974. "This was an incredible kind of round. The wind was between 20 or 30 (miles per hour), and I thought they'd have been pooped by the end. But four of the six birdied the last hole."

Harvey finished second with a 73, and Hendrickson shot his best round in three years, according to Wagner, with a 74. Cantu (78), Casey Johnson (79) and Matt Baide (80) rounded out the scoring for Hanford.

FALCON GOLF TEAM NOTES - MAY 11, 2006

Hanford coach Chuck Wagner was buzzing after his team's impressive performance at the Mid-Valley League district tournament Monday at Yakima Elks Country Club.

The Falcons placed six golfers in the top nine and came away with a 294 to beat West Valley by 12 shots and Ellensburg by 45.

"That was the best score by a high school team there in 30 years," said Wagner, who has coached at Hanford since 1974. This was an incredible kind of round."

And a very balanced one for the Falcons.

Alex Moore led the way with a 2-under 69, and Josh Harvey was second with a 73, followed by Jacob Hendrickson (74), Alex Cantu (78), Casey Johnson (79) and Matt Baide (80).

Making the scores look more impressive, Wagner said the course conditions were exceptionally windy and he felt they might wear on his team down the stretch. Far from it, Hanford had four players who managed to birdie their last hole, and according to Wagner, Hendrickson's 74 was his best score in three years.
