District Champions
Hanford knocked off three-time defending champion Kamiakin on Friday to win the CBBN 4A/3A district meet at Garland's Gym.

The Falcons scored 135.10 points, finishing four points ahead of Southridge.

"Hanford won for the first time all year and came through with the district title," said Southridge coach Heidi Fryer. "Their team has come a long way, and we'll see good things from them next week, too, at regionals."

Kamiakin (129.40) finished third while Richland was a distant fourth with 76.10 points.

"That's our highest team score all year by at least two points," Fryer said.

Kayla Curtis of Kamiakin clinched the all-around title with a score of 35.7. The Suns' Tristan Peterson (35.0) overcame a hyperextended knee to place second and the Braves' Danielle Cuevas (33.75) finished third.

"She spent the whole night working through the pain," Fryer said of Peterson. "And she became beam champion. That's a huge credit to her and her competitive nature.

Peterson earned the beam title with a score of 8.9, and Kamiakin's Curtis swept the vault (8.7), bars (8.5) and floor (9.7) events.

All four teams advance to regionals next Friday in Spokane.
