Denny was a starting outfielder for the Falcons for three Varsity seasons, while at the same time sharing pitching duties. Denny led the team in stolen bases for those three years and was an outstanding defensive outfielder. His senior season in 1977, Denny hit over .400, was voted co-captain by his teammates, and led led the team in hits and RBIs. Denny was chosen All-League, and was one of the finalists for Columbia Basin Player of the Year. Because of these accomplishments, Denny was selected to play in the All-State game, where he was named the Most Valuable Player. Denny also played Varsity basketball for two years, and was the starting guard on the 1977 team that placed third at the State Tournament.
