Samantha Brown   Soccer and Track Class of 2005

In 2002 Kasey Hostetler, Samantha (Sami) Brown and Melissa Guthrie entered the HHS track field program. We as coaches, soon realized that these ladies were special. They did not disappoint. Starting with their freshman year they made it to state in the 4x100. For three years the lead off leg would change, but the last three stayed same Sami, Kasey, Mel. The change came in the form of Kasey’s little sister Kelly, she became the starting leg for the 2005 season. With the addition, the girls 4x1 went on the win the district and regional title and place 4th in state during the 2005 season. In the 4 years at Hanford the 4x1 quartet of Kelly Hostetler, Sami Brown, Kasey Hostetler, and Melissa Guthrie claimed, (2)-District titles(03,05) (2)-regional titles(04,05), that includes the 2004 regional title that would be known as the “I don’t want to give back my first place medal” race (Sami Brown’s words, in reference to districts that year), (1)- 4th place finish in state(2005),and making it to state in all 4 years in the 4x100. Also, Kasey and Melissa ran on the 4x2 all 4 years, and Samantha her senior year. That relay collected, (1)- district title(03), (1)- regional title(03), (2)- top 9 placings at the Pasco Invite(04,05), and two state placings , 2nd in 2003, and 4th in 2004; and finally, the school record holders in the 4x2, (2003) 1:44.65. Needless to say these girls’ medal boards are heavy. Samantha truly left a legacy for other HHS female track and field athletes to strive for on the track.
