Tyler Cathey   Football, Basketball and Track Class of 2005

Tyler is one of the most dynamic, talented and best players in Hanford High School history. On the basketball court, Tyler helped lead the Falcons to a 24-5 record his senior year and an 8th place finish at the State tournament. He averaged 17 points a game as a senior and was voted first team Mid-Valley All League. He was also the Player of the Year in the League and was named the Tri-City Herald All-Area Player of the Year in 2005. Tyler was an all-around excellent player who excelled both as an offensive force and a defensive stopper. Tyler was one of the best defenders we have had at Hanford High School.

Tyler also competed on the Track & Field team. Tyler was primarily a javelin thrower but also triple jumped and ran on the sprint relay team. His accomplishments placed him at the State Championships in the javelin his 10th, 11th, and 12th grade years. Tyler placed 5th his sophomore year with a throw of 170-5. He placed 1st in State his junior year with a throw of 184-7 and 2nd in State his senior year with a throw of 194’-08”. Tyler had the longest throw in the State, his senior year, from an earlier meet where he threw over 212’, which today is Hanford’s impressive school record.

Tyler was also an outstanding wide receiver on the Falcon Football team.

Tyler attended EWU where he competed for the Eagle track team.

Hanford High School was truly blessed with such a fine individual. His talents and his character made him a State Champion and a world class member of our team. Tyler was a great student-athlete and a pleasure to coach. He always played hard. His competitive spirit helped lift the Falcons to great success. Tyler is very deserving to be in the HHS Hall of Fame.
