Nancy Roy   Coach 1973 through 1984

Nancy Roy was a volleyball coach known for teaching the fundamentals. This would become the basis for her volleyball teams' continued success throughout the years of 1973 through 1984. Nancy was Hanford High School's first volleyball coach when the Falcons competed in the Big 9 League. Nancy started with immediate success, winning matches over many of the Tri-Cities high schools. Two years later, after the Falcons moved to the Mid-Valley League, Nancy enjoyed coaching the "team to beat" until her stepping down as the Falcon's Coach in 1984.

She continually had Hanford High School at the State Tournament. In 1980, the Falcons placed fourth at State despite the fact that her team employed the simplest of offenses and a no blocking defense. Coach Roy's basic defensive schemes frustrated the most aggressive teams in the State Tournament. Those fundamental concepts continued through Falcon volleyball after her retirment and played an important role in the Falcon's second place finish at State in 1987. Nancy Roy will always be remembered as one of the founders of successful girls' athletics at Hanford High School. Go Falcons!
