1987 State Baseball Champions   STATE CHAMPIONS 1987

Hanford Coach Glenn Meinke could refer to the Kingdome as the “H” Dome. That’s “H” as in homer. The Falcons finished 21 and 6 on the year as they beat North Thurston of Lacey 4 to 2 in the 1987 State Championship game. Dave Densley and Scott O’Dell both hit two-run home runs to lead the Falcons to their second State Championship in three years.

“Unreal is the statement of the week,” said Coach Meinke. “When we started the season, I sure didn’t expect this to happen. These guys aren’t the hardest workers, but they get the job done when they needed it.”

“This one is different,” O’Dell said of his second State Championship. He also started at first base as a sophomore when the Falcons won the 1985 State Championship. “When I was a sophomore, we were winning it for the seniors. But this time we won it for us. We don’t practice hard; we just come out to play baseball to have fun. Today we just came out to have fun and win the State Championship.”

Mike Jimerson (7-1) was the winning pitcher allowing three hits and no earned runs.
