Justin Clary   Track Class of 2003

Justin is one of two Hanford great pole-vaulters to be inducted into this year’s Hanford’s Hall of Fame. A 2003 graduate, Justin Clary and teammate Thomas Seely vaulted their way to be two of the State’s top pole-vaulters. As a junior Justin earned a trip to the State Championships in the pole vault by vaulting 14’1” good enough to be in the top 6 going into the State meet.

Justin was nervous but very excited as he realized when the bar was raised to 14’ just how important it was to make the height on his first attempt. He did make it, and then he went and sat in his little ocean beach chair and watched, as 10 pole-vaulters one by one miss. A crescendo of excitement was seen on Justin as the competition bowed out, and Justin then became State Champion in the Pole Vault.

Senior year arrives and Justin and Thomas are two of the best. As seniors, Justin vaulting 14’6” and Thomas vaulting 15’6” - they were two of the top four in the State meet. Tough competition for Justin but having a teammate to compete with, made the meet all that more exciting for him and his team. Justin finished 5th and Thomas finished 3rd. Justin was one of the reasons that the Hanford Team placed 4th in the Washington State Team Championship.
